Planisware Alternatives: Competitors, Pricing and PPM Tools
Planisware is a serious enterprise PPM suite, and people rarely leave it because it is weak. They leave because the rollout outgrew the problem, because an IT portfolio was squeezed into a product built around R&D pipelines, or because the renewal quote arrived before anyone could show what the suite had decided. This page compares the real options for each of those, and says where Planisware is still the better buy.
Priced per workspace with published plans, from $24.50 a month billed yearly or $49 monthly. The demo portfolio opens on signup, already scored, ranked and planned against capacity.
The best Planisware alternative depends on what kind of portfolio you run. For an enterprise suite built around IT, transformation and strategy, the direct comparisons are Planview, ServiceNow SPM and Broadcom Clarity. For a configurable mid-market PPM platform, look at Triskell, Celoxis and Planisware's own lighter Orchestra product. For engineering and capital projects where schedule control matters most, Oracle Primavera is the usual comparison. If the real gap is simply that nobody can show which initiatives are funded and whether they can be staffed, a focused portfolio workspace covers that decision without a suite implementation.
The five reasons a Planisware contract gets reopened
Planisware tends to win on depth: stage gated pipelines, portfolio financials, resource and cost modeling for large product organizations. The reasons people look elsewhere are almost never about missing features. They are about fit, weight and cost, and each one points to a different shortlist.
| The trigger | What it sounds like internally | What you are actually shopping for |
|---|---|---|
| The rollout outgrew the problem | We needed a ranked portfolio and a capacity view. We got a configuration project | Something the PMO can load and run itself, measured in weeks rather than quarters |
| The portfolio is IT, not R&D | Half the model is built for product pipelines we do not have | An IT or strategic portfolio platform that speaks run versus change, demand and ITSM intake |
| Only a few people use it properly | The PMO lives in it. Executives wait for the slide | Fewer seats, simpler outputs, and an export that non users can read |
| The renewal needs a business case | Finance asked what the suite decided last year and nobody had an answer | A tool whose output is a decision, with a funding line and a record of what was cut |
| Agile teams sit outside it | Delivery runs in Jira and the portfolio view is always a month stale | A portfolio layer that reads from team tooling instead of replacing it |
Planisware competitors compared by what they replace
We sell one of the products in this table, so treat the last column as our own view and check it in a trial. The first three columns come from the vendors themselves. Ownership matters more than usual in this market: Planview has absorbed several products that older lists still show as independent Planisware alternatives, including Sciforma in February 2025.
| Tool | Owner | What it is | How it is priced | Where it beats Planisware |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Planview | Private, backed by TPG and TA Associates | A family of portfolio platforms for strategy, delivery, financials and value streams | Quoted, role based seats | Broader coverage of IT, agile and transformation portfolios, plus a Leader placement in the Gartner Strategic Portfolio Management report |
| ServiceNow SPM | ServiceNow | Strategic portfolio management on the Now Platform, formerly ITBM | Quoted, usually inside a wider ServiceNow agreement | Demand, intake and delivery sit next to ITSM, so IT work never has to be re-keyed |
| Broadcom Clarity | Broadcom | Long established enterprise PPM with deep financial management | Quoted | Enterprise IT financials and chargeback, for organizations already in the Broadcom estate |
| Planisware Orchestra | Planisware | The vendor's own turnkey cloud product for smaller organizations | Quoted | Same vendor, lighter weight, a faster start than Planisware Enterprise |
| Triskell | Independent | Configurable PPM and portfolio platform for mid to large portfolios | Quoted | Configurability when your governance model will not bend to a fixed data model |
| Celoxis | Independent | Project and portfolio management with resource and financial tracking | Published per user pricing on its site | A mid-market budget and a shorter path to live |
| Meisterplan | itdesign GmbH | Lean portfolio and resource capacity planning built around scenarios | Per schedulable resource, users free | Scenario based capacity planning without suite weight |
| Oracle Primavera | Oracle | Project and portfolio controls for engineering, construction and capital programs | Quoted | Critical path scheduling depth for asset heavy capital projects |
| Portfolio Hub | Independent | A focused portfolio workspace: scoring, ranking, funding line, capacity plan, gate packs | Per workspace, from $24.50 a month billed yearly | Settles the funding decision in one planning round, with no implementation project |

How Planisware pricing compares with its competitors
Planisware does not publish a price list. Neither do Planview, Clarity or ServiceNow SPM. Any number you read for these suites on a third party site is an estimate, and nothing on this page will invent one. What you can compare honestly is the pricing unit, because the unit decides how the bill grows.
| Pricing model | Who uses it | What makes the bill grow | What to ask in the quote |
|---|---|---|---|
| Quoted enterprise subscription with services | Planisware, Planview, Clarity, ServiceNow SPM | More named users, more modules, and implementation or configuration days | The services estimate as a separate line, and the price of a read only executive seat |
| Per schedulable resource | Meisterplan | Every person you load into the capacity plan, whether or not they log in | Whether team level planning counts as one resource or many |
| Published per user | Celoxis and most work management tools | Every seat, including occasional reviewers | Which roles need a paid seat to approve or comment |
| Per workspace, published | Portfolio Hub | Moving up a plan for more initiatives, roles or gate packs | Nothing, the plans and limits are on the pricing page |
Where Planisware is still the right answer
Comparison pages written by vendors tend to find that the vendor wins every row. Planisware is a strong product for a specific kind of organization, and if any of these describe you, the switching cost is probably not worth it.
Your portfolio is products and science
Pharmaceutical pipelines, aerospace programs and new product development portfolios are where Planisware built its reputation. Pipeline economics, phase gates and long horizon cost modeling are the product, not a module bolted on later.
Finance runs through the portfolio
If portfolio financials, cost forecasts and actuals already live in the suite and finance signs off from it, replacing that with a lighter tool means rebuilding a control somewhere else.
The configuration is paid for
A mature Planisware estate carries years of process encoded in its configuration. If it works and people use it, the rollout cost is already sunk and a new tool restarts it.
Vendor independence matters
Planisware is an independent company listed on Euronext Paris since April 2024. In a market where one competitor has bought several of the others, a buyer can reasonably value that.
Pick by the sentence you would use to explain the problem
Shortlists go wrong when everyone agrees the current tool is wrong without agreeing what is wrong with it. Find the sentence closest to yours and start the evaluation there, not with a feature grid.
| If you would say this | Start with | Because |
|---|---|---|
| Our portfolio is IT and it should sit next to the service desk | ServiceNow SPM | Demand and intake already arrive through ITSM, so the portfolio reads them where they land |
| We need strategy, agile delivery and funding in one enterprise estate | Planview | Its range covers more portfolio types than a product development suite does |
| We like Planisware and want less of it | Planisware Orchestra | Same vendor and data model, a smaller footprint and a faster start |
| Our governance is unusual and no tool fits it out of the box | Triskell | Configurability is what it sells, so a nonstandard process is the normal case |
| We know we are over capacity and cannot agree what to cut | A portfolio workspace with a scoring model and a funding line | The missing artifact is an agreed ranking, not another layer of project detail |
| We run capital and engineering projects on the critical path | Oracle Primavera | Schedule control depth is the requirement, and it is the reference tool for it |
Six things to prove in the trial, on your own data
Every enterprise suite demos well on a sample portfolio built for the demo. Before you sign a multi year contract, load twenty of your real initiatives and your real role list, and check these six in front of the people who will use the result.
| Check | What to do | What a pass looks like |
|---|---|---|
| Time to first decision | Ask how long until your own portfolio is ranked, not the demo one | An answer in days or weeks, with the services scope written down |
| Scoring is yours | Change a criterion weight during the session | The ranking reorders in front of you, without an admin ticket |
| The funding line is real | Set the budget below total demand | The portfolio splits into funded and deferred, with a cumulative cost you can show |
| Capacity is by role and month | Load your actual role list, not generic teams | The shortfall appears as a number per role per month |
| Executives can read it without a seat | Send the output to someone with no license | A frozen pack or export they can open, not a login request |
| Your data comes out | Export the register, the scores and the capacity plan | Excel or CSV on demand, with no services engagement to arrange it |
The portfolios this workspace fits, and the ones it does not
A PMO that needs the decision first
The suite evaluation will take months. The planning round will not. Running this round in a workspace gives you a ranked, funded portfolio now and a clear requirement list for whatever platform follows.
An IT portfolio in a product suite
You do not run stage gated pipelines, you run a queue of IT and transformation initiatives competing for the same people. Weighted scoring and a role capacity plan fit that shape directly.
A renewal that has to be justified
If the question from finance is what the portfolio tool actually decided, a funding line with a record of what was deferred is a concrete answer to bring to the table.
Not a fit: pipelines and ledgers
If you need drug development phase modeling, capitalization rules, timesheets or a financial ledger inside the portfolio tool, that is Planisware territory or another full suite, and we will say so rather than sell around it.
Questions people ask when comparing Planisware alternatives
What are the best Planisware alternatives?
It depends on the portfolio you run. For an enterprise suite built around IT, strategy and transformation, the direct comparisons are Planview, ServiceNow SPM and Broadcom Clarity. For a configurable mid-market platform, Triskell and Celoxis, or Planisware Orchestra if you want to stay with the same vendor. For capital projects, Oracle Primavera. For scoring, ranking and funding decisions without a suite rollout, a focused portfolio workspace such as Portfolio Hub covers the decision layer.
Who are Planisware's main competitors?
In analyst coverage and enterprise shortlists, Planisware most often meets Planview, ServiceNow SPM and Broadcom Clarity, with Triskell, Celoxis and Meisterplan appearing in mid-market deals. Sciforma used to be a separate competitor, but Planview completed its acquisition on February 18, 2025, so it now counts as part of the Planview shortlist rather than an independent option.
How much does Planisware cost?
Planisware does not publish a price list. It is sold as a quoted enterprise subscription, and the total usually depends on the number of named users, the modules licensed and the implementation or configuration services. Ask for the services estimate as a separate line and for the price of read only executive access, because those two items move the total most.
What is the difference between Planisware Enterprise and Planisware Orchestra?
Planisware Enterprise is the full platform aimed at large organizations with complex portfolios, often in R&D and product development. Planisware Orchestra is the vendor's turnkey cloud product for smaller organizations that want a faster start and less configuration. If you like the vendor but not the weight, Orchestra is the first alternative to price.
Is Planisware good for IT portfolio management?
It can run an IT portfolio, and some IT organizations use it, but its reputation and much of its depth come from product development, R&D pipelines and stage gated programs. IT portfolios that live next to a service desk often fit ServiceNow SPM or Planview more naturally, because demand, intake and run versus change reporting are closer to the core of those products.
Do we need a full PPM suite to prioritize our portfolio?
Not always. A suite earns its cost when financials, timesheets, schedules and governance must all live in one system of record. If the actual problem is agreeing which initiatives to fund and whether they can be staffed, a scoring model, a funding line and a capacity plan by role settle that, and they can run on a workspace while a suite decision is still months away.
